Workforce Development Local Boards

SERVING SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA

A Workforce Development Board is a group of community leaders appointed by local elected officials.  These local boards are charged with planning and providing oversight for workforce program and services in the area.

The Southwest Virginia Workforce Development Board (SWVWDB)
is the designated regional convener and administrative entity that coordinates workforce training and career services through federal funding from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA). We are charged with overseeing and implementing workforce development initiatives and activities throughout the 

Virginia Career Works – Southwest Region.

Our regional board is one of 15 workforce boards throughout Virginia servicing the counties of Lee, Scott,Wise, Buchanan, Tazewell, Dickenson, Russell and the City of Norton.

WE ARE DEDICATED TO:

  • Developing local plans for the use of Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act funds
  • Creating specialized programs to meet the needs of jobseekers who have severe barriers, such as substance misuse and justice system involvement
  • Providing oversight of the local service delivery system
  • Coordinating activities with economic development entities, partner agencies, and employers in their local areas
