Candi realizes her dream of becoming a nurse

Buchanan County resident Candi had always wanted to become a nurse. As a single mother with four young children at home, finding the time and money to go back to school was difficult, though she knew she needed a good job to provide for them. After hearing about the SWVA Works Adult program, she realized her dream to become a nurse could become a reality.

Candi quickly enrolled in the Practical Nursing program at Buchanan County Career, Technology, & Higher Learning Center after discovering the Adult program could pay tuition for her to attend. Not only did the program assist with tuition costs, but it also helped with uniforms, travel, vehicle repairs, and fees required to sit for her state licensure.

Candi is now employed full-time at a local clinic, providing outstanding health care for her community. She can now provide for her family as she makes good wages and benefits.
