Wise County resident Noah had worked part-time, minimum-wage jobs to get by but knew he needed to find a career that would allow him to be financially independent. He began researching programs at Mountain Empire Community College and, with the help of his former case manager Monica Buchanan, enrolled in the Power Lineman Program.
Noah began his training in April and completed training in June. The WIOA Adult program was able to help him with mileage reimbursement to and from class, plus the specialized boots that all linemen need to climb poles. Almost immediately after graduation, Noah landed a job with River City Construction in the Berryville, Virginia, area. He likes the travel but looks forward to returning to Wise County during his home time. To help with his continued success, case manager Robyn Davis is helping Noah purchase his own set of tools.
Noah is delighted with the company and his new position and is very thankful for the assistance and the opportunity to have a career he loves.
