SWVA Works Dickenson County and CIS of Appalachian Highlands partner to provide job and resource fair to young adults

SWVA Works in Dickenson County partnered with Communities in Schools of the Appalachian Highlands to host the Senior Summer Job Fair at Ridgeview High School in Clintwood on April 12th. The event was open to RHS’s senior class first and then to other Dickenson County young adults (up to age 24). Businesses and resource agencies across Dickenson County and its surrounding areas were available to speak with attendees throughout the three-hour event.

“I think today went great,” said Stephanie Edwards, workforce specialist for Dickenson County, immediately following the event. “All the vendors were excited to be here [and] want to be invited to any other events we do. Several of [the vendors] talked about doing something even bigger in the fall. We had many great discussions about young adults’ needs.” She is very grateful to CIS of AH for their partnership and the resource agencies and employers for coming out.

The event was part of an outreach effort for the Intro Program, which helps “introduce” young adults to the workforce by providing career coaching, paid internship opportunities, financial aid for school, and more.
