Virginia Career Works – Richlands Center celebrates Easter

Virginia Career Works – Richlands Center staff hosted the “Easter Eggs-travaganza” outreach event on April 1st. Families in the area were invited to come and take holiday photos of their kids with the Easter Bunny free of charge. “We want to ensure everyone can take pictures with Santa, the Easter Bunny… all kids deserve that,” says Heather King, the center’s manager. In all, over twenty-five visitors came to meet our favorite long-eared visitor.

These outreach events (typically done for Easter, Halloween, and Christmas) occur annually at the main one-stop workforce centers in Richlands and formerly in Duffield (no outreach events have been scheduled in Wise yet). King says, “It is a great way for people to know what we do and [to] see our center.” Holding these outreach events at the main workforce centers helps open them up to those who may not otherwise visit, letting them know services are available if and when needed.

The events are also a lot of fun for the staff who volunteer their free time to work them. Victoria McGlothlin, VCW-Richlands assistant manager, recalls how rewarding it is to see the smiles on the faces of both children and their parents, saying, “That makes it all worth it!”
